Artist Spotlight: Aubrey Drake Graham..

Drake became known for playing Jimmy Brooks, the basketball star that got shot on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Drake has not been officially signed to a record label, but has been releasing great quality of music since 2006.  Not only does Drake rap, but he also sings with a great voice–sometimes doing both on songs.  Hit first mixtape,” Room for Improvement”, is Drake’s first release publicly.  Taking advantage of the buzz he created, Drake then released a mixtape called “Comeback Season” in 2007–where he gained a lot of recognition and popularity by doing a song with Lil Wayne.  In 2008, he released “Heartbreak Drake” and continued to create a buzz in the music industry. Drake’s most popular mixtape to date, “So Far Gone,” broke through to mainstream and has made him the “#1 free agent on the market.”  Currently, he has 2 records that are in heavy rotation on the radio (“Best I Ever Had” and “Every Girl,” which features members of Young Money).  If “Best I Ever Had” becomes #1 on the charts, Drake will be the 2nd person in history to do so without a record label.  Drake has close affiliations with Lil Wayne and Young Money and it is speculated that he will sign with them.  He has worked with Lil Wayne, Jay-Z (on his upcoming Blueprint 3 album), Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz, Robin Thicke and more.  He’s friends with a couple artists signed under Jay-Z’ Roc Nation record label, which adds to the speculation on where he’ll be signed.  He works extremely hard, though, and is currently working on his debut album, “Thank Me Later.”
